Ash Wednesday 2010
Ash Wednesday this year falls on a Wednesday! Harharhar!
Seriously, here is what Wikipedia says:
"For the Western Christian calendar, Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent and occurs forty-six days (forty days not counting Sundays) beforeEaster. It is a moveable feast, falling on a different date each year because it is dependent on the date of Easter. It can occur as early as 4 February or as late as 10 March."
We Filipinos observe this Holy day and we do make sure we celebrate the Holy Eucharist on this day. Catholic Churches all over the Philippines will follow a Sunday schedule and will have an hourly Holy Eucharistic Celebration. It is a day of repentance and the beginning of our new lives. Starting over again and living life according to His Will and not our own.
This will be the start of the 40-Day Lent (make it 46 including the Sundays) which means we Catholic Christians will offer daily sacrifices. Abstinence from sex (for married individuals only!), from activities we feel are diversions from our real purpose in life and some say we ought to avoid eating meat during this time.
I know this post will surely fall under the Category Religion but I don't have the label to go with it so just check the Label Spirituality.
