GM Nelson Mariano II was chosen as "Chess Player of the Month" by the newly formed Chess Journalists Association of the Philippines (CJAP). He boasts the right to be called The First ever to get this award.
The newly formed CJAP is composed of editors and sportswriters who cover the chess beat. Headed by Ed Andaya of People's Tonight.
