National Chess Federation of the Philippines Executive Director Willy Abalos passed away last Sunday, May 8, 2011 at the age of 49. His body lies at St. Peter Chapel, Quezon City. He has been a fixture in Philippine tournaments the past decade as a tournament director, captained the Philippine team in their second place finish against China in the Asian Games in Guangzhou China. The Philippine chess community will surely miss him.
My condolences to the loved ones and friends our director left behind.
