Wesley Against ROTP

Hey there!

The currently running tournament called "Battle of the Grandmasters" could have been called GM Wesley Vs Rest of the Philippines. With all the tournament participants aiming for the Bacoor Wonderboy's Royal King, I don't see any other reason not to call the tournament as such.

The battle between GM's So and Torre ended in a draw. As we all know, unless you've been living under a rock or somewhere else where civilization does not meet the light of day, GM Eugene Torre has carried the Philippine Chess flag for the past 4 decades and along with it, the title Aisa's first grandmaster while Wes is currently the youngest grandmaster in the world and Philippines' number player on the ratings book and playing field. Le' me be clear on that, on the playing field!

They say it was a battle between the past and the future but I disagree. As long as GM Eugene is actively playing, I will never want to call him the past. And for Wesley, he is not the future, he is the now, period.

Ok, it was a draw and because of this, Laguna-based IM John Paul Gomez was able to catch up with Wesley with a win against NM Oliver Barbosa. They now share the top spot with 3.5 points each.

I wonder who's going to take the second spot in this event?

Another Bacoor resident, Vince Angelo Medina of Cavite School Of Life, wins the Gold Medal for Board 1 in the Palarong Pambansa Chess event elementary division. Bacoor, Bacoor!
