Here is a Chess Training Program I found online. Notice the balance between the theories and experience. Take note of the balance between the study of the phases of the game too, opening, middle game, endgame, tactics and strategy.
Just like any academic endeavor, you get the best out of the theoretical and application of what you've studied. In chess, studying one or two openings and using it in your games for more than 3 months will give you a deeper insight into the variations, positional and tactical.
