39th Chess Olympiad: Happenings for RP Teams

I've been in a dream-like mode these days. Requests for speaking engagements and consultancy are coming in from left to right and I haven't had the time to play and read about chess until now.

First, GM Rogelio "Joey" Antonio is out of the Philippine Team and he was replaced by IM Richard Bitoon. Richard Bitoon was GM Wesley So's 2nd in the Amsterdam Tournament he played in recently. Just in case you were living under a rock, you for sure first got that news here.

In round one of the Olympiad, RP team scored 4 points against Korea. In round two we lost against Spain 2.5-1.5. In round three, RP scored a draw against Scotland 2-2. Philippine team plays Paraguay in 4th round.

Team composition of the Philippines for the 39th Chess Olympiad:

Board 1: GM Wesley So
Board 2: GM John Paul Gomez
Board 3: GM Darwin Laylo
Board 4: GM Eugene Torre
Board 5: IM Richard Bitoon

Philippine Women's Team:

Board 1: Cheradee Chardine Camacho
Board 2: Catherine Perena
Board 3: Shercila Cua
Board 4: Rulp Ylem Jose
Board 5: Jedara Docena.

Chaperones for the 10-man Filipino delegation are NCFP executive/events director Wil-lie Abalos and coaches Atty. Edmundo Legaspi (men) and Cesar Caturla (women). NCFP President Pichay and secretary-general and Tagaytay City Mayor Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino will travel to Khanty-Mansiysk later next week.
