Hi there!
While my neighbor-chessmate Gilbert Gante and I were neck deep in raising funds for our very first Treelane II Exclusive Chess Tournament, he uttered in disgust:
"Pre, mula't sapul nagka-interest ako sa chess, laging pondo ang problema ba't kaya?"
And yes, I didn't need to give any replies to his "why is the sky blue" type of question. Hahahaha!
A neighboring town, which I didn't know, has the all the clocks and chess sets to run a tournament. When my contact tried to borrow the tools from the president (a questionable, shady, irritating character), he said.
"No way, if it's for Imus!"
Hey hey hey! Is it your war against the Imus Chess Association president? Is it personal in nature? Or PESONAL one?
Anyways, check out the write up about Philippines' newest chess sensation from Davao, John Ray Batucan . I heard this 12 year old boy is a newly minted FIDE Master... not sure though.
Well, chess life is all about funding. Funding for your training, for your trip abroad, for your trip to tournament venues etc.
Something could be done about this... But yes, the quality of play and players would have to be filtered.
Chess funding and a world class chess... they go together!
