Hey there!
Patrick Miguel Aquino wins the first ever Ladislawa Rapid Chess Tournament held recently at Cabana Poolside, Ladislawa Village, Buhangin.
And Philippine Information Agency website writes about Pilipinas Shell Promotes Chess, something the chess community has been grateful about the past 15 years.
FIDE has released it's April 2008 rating list and Asian superstar Vishy Anand still on top with 2803 followed by Russian Vladimir Kramnik. Third on the list is another Russian Alexander Morozevich with 2774. On fourth the Bulgarian big time Veselin Topalov with 2767. On fifth is Norwegian wonderboy Carlsen Magnus 2767.
Top 50 Women's Rating is here. Judith Polgar tops the list with 2709 followed by another Asian Humpy Koneru. On third spot is another Asian in the name of Yifan Hou with a rating of 2549.
Top 20 Juniors here and our own Whiz Kid GM Wesley So is nowhere on the top 20 list. I thought he'll be there. Magnus Carlsen tops the list as expected (logically!) followed by Ukranian Sergev Kariakin with 2732. Interestingly he didn't play any games this year? The zero under the games somehow tells me he didn't. On third spot is an Asian in the name of Hao Wang with a rating of 2684.
Top 20 Girls here. Topped by no other than Yifan Hao from China. Followed on second spot by Slovakian Anna Muzychuk with 2486.
Country ranking shows Russia still on top! Check the list here. Guess am I heard myself say "You must be crazy to expect Philippines to be in this list!"
Anyways, let's wait and see for another ten years and see the fruits of all the efforts put in by the NCFP in the grassroots level chess now. International Chess will be surprised and threatened by our players by then.
