Hey there!
AS you all know, I work as a Special Education Teacher specialist here in one of the many International Schools in Makati-Paranaque area for the last three years. Before this one, I have worked in a variety of settings which include a public school, an orphanage, two universities along taft avenue and in a private library as an in-house storyteller.
I have worked as a volunteer occpuatonal therapist too right after graduation in college and after a year, I decided to pursue a much related career in special education.
Since then, I've been asked by a lot of people why am still in the Philippines, why I don't try our US of A since the need for what i do is high in the land of milk and money.
What they don't know, I've had a lot of applications, some are good, some are bad but most are productive until I back out. Chickening out! Maybe I was not ready, maybe I was scared to be uprooted from my comfort zone. A lot of maybe's and a lot of what ifs until last Monday.
I got myself interviewed by the people from FACESinc, known as Foreign Academic and Cultural Exchange Services at the Shalom Center near St. Paul University Manila.
After a short 30 minute video-taped panel interview, things run through my head regarding my work and life in America should I pass the qualifications and interview.
First, I need to make sure I get the right movers who would help me out with my stuffs and my family as well.
Add to that, I need to make sure my kids, who are in their school-age years, get a good school and to make sure they'll get it, comparison of available schools in the school district that I get in.
Lastly, I would have to make sure too that (dreaming and hoping) I get the chance and opportunity to get a housing loan thru mortgages.
Although I know, as the Head for Special Education and Counseling Office of my school, I can stay on for awhile and enjoy much of the perks I get like sponsoring the chess club meeting every Mondays and helping other kids in nearby communities thru chess lessons and tournaments.
It's an open book though that most of the Filipinos want a much better life, I can stay on and be with my family as well. Nothing beats the feeling of companionship your loved-ones can give.
