Hello there!
After round 4, GM Wesley So leads the pack with a clean 4 points in as many rounds. When I saw The result of Wesley's round 3 match against Asia's 1st GM Eugene Torre, I had this feeling that the Whiz Kid from Bacoor, Cavite will he the runaway winner of this tournament. Aside from Eugene, I think GM Antonio will be the closest rival in the tourney to give RP's number 1 a tough time. We will have to wait for round 6.
Men's Standings after round 4 and we can see Wesley is up by a full point against current second placer, GM Bong Antonio. GM's Laylo, Gomez and IM Bitoon shares 3rd place with 2.5 points.
In the Women's side, Standings after round 4 shows a tight fight among the players sharing 2.5 points against the lone leader WFM Shercila Cua with 3.5 points. San Juan de Letran's WNM Jan Jodylin Fronda is leading the 2.5 pointers via the tiebreaks.
There is a perceived domination on the part of GM Wesley So in the Men's division but in the women's division, a mix-up is brewing.
First half of the tourney is almost over and from what I've read before, GM Bong Antonio they say is a slow starter. I'd love to watch the match between Wesley and him. I'm not discounting the possibility of GM Gomez gaining momentum in the next 2 rounds though.
