Wesley On Top

July 1 FIDE rating shows GM Wesley So is the man este, the boy ontop of Philippine chess. With a FIDE rating of 2577, he gained 37 points from April's rating.

Following him with 2524 are GM's Eugene Torre and Jayson Gonzales. On fourth is a former number one, GM Mark Paragua with 2523 and completing the Philippine's top five is IM Rolando Nolte with 2522.

On 6th is GM Bong Antonio with 2518 followed by GM Darwin Laylo with 2504 on 7th. IM Joseph Sanchez with 2486 on 8th, IM Oliver Dimkiling with 2479 on the 9th and on to complete the top ten, we have IM Inno Sadorra with 2466.

So for the grandfinals of the qualifying tournament for the Philippine team to Dresden Olympiad, we are somewhat enlightened as to who are seeded for the event. One IA whispers:

"Seeded are the players within the top 12 of the Philippines... but there are players in that category who are either based overseas or campaigning overseas...how would NCFP deal with this kink?"

Well? Not my prob...

On the global scale, our country is placed on the 34th out of 137 countries. We have an average rating of 2513. Check out Philippine's General Ratings and Titles Statistics of FIDE's Global Chess. I wonder if NCFP and the people it represents creates it's own titles because as far as I know, we have 9 grandmasters. FIDE says its only six. Outdated or invented? Calling global chess!

  2. Sir kiko, the 6 grandmasters on the FIDE website corresponds only to the active GM's (therefore Balinas and Mariano was not accounted)we have.
    1. Torre
    2. Balinas
    3. Antonio
    4. Villamayor
    5. Paragua
    6. Mariano
    7. Laylo
    8. So
    9. Gonzales (with his new rating, Jayson have already secured the title)

    Now:
    Dimakiling
    Nolte
    Sanchez

  3. Actually GM Bong Villamayor was accounted by FIDE as one of those six "active" GMs.It was Jayson Gonzales who was not yet listed as GM, hence the number accounted by FIDE were only six:

    1. Torre
    2. Antonio
    3. Villamayor
    4. Paragua
    5. Laylo
    6. So
    7. GM-elect Gonzales (with his new rating, Jayson have already secured the title as he already overfulfilled the required norm already)

Joshua, Bong Villamayor is active on the FIDE list registering a 2469 ELO.
