Yep, I think this coming June 2009, we will be seeing chess notebooks and chess assignments from our children's notebooks when they arrive home from school.
By now everyone in the chess community there back home knows about the memo signed by President GMA.
Am a bit scared now for I am foreseeing great issues of corruption in this nationwide project. As to how this will happen, if it will happen, will depend mainly on the system to be implemented.
Don't get me wrong now, this is a welcome thingy for our chess trainers, coaches and players, the time has come!
More workshops, more simuls and invitations for our players, more teams and schools to train for our chess coaches. Forget about the global economic ouch-ouch because this means additional income for our chess professionals.
Let's not forget WNM Mila Emperado's pioneering work in this field and Philippine Chess Society's system, quiet, smooth but effective. Does the job without fanfare which only for showbiz! But wait, we need to portray our chess heroes as persons and veer away from those old school potrayal of our chess greats : geeky, boring and physically lame!
Chess is the game of mind and body! Good luck to DepEd and NCFP!
