"...almost caught up with the leaders by winning again, this time over Club Intchess of Singapore 3.5-0.5. Take note that their board 2 player is a Filipino, IM Julio Catalino Sadorra. Recall that in the Dresden Olympiad their board 1 player was IM Enrique Paciencia, another Filipino. Who are the other Pinoys working in Singapore? Well, let’s see: GM Nelson Mariano, International Masters Rico Mascarinas, Lito Maninang, Domingo Ramos, Yves Ranola, Luis Chiong and several more. And you wonder where all our talent is going? It's alarming to see so much native talent leave the country, not only in chess but in other areas of endeavour. I don't think even a ball and chain can keep them there. Why should they? If the local government cannot provide a fertile and promising economic environment, why remain? Seek your fortune and success somewhere else. Patriotism doesn't pay when your government doesn't work. It's like our auto industry here in the US. They expect us to buy their products, buy American, all that crap about loyalty and patriotism, but they don't care about offering us good and reliable products. I wouldn't put it beyond Wesley So to leave the country as well if that path would lead him up the road to greater opportunites, greater glory, and perhaps becoming the first Filipino world chess champion.
