Hello there!
Woke up today and realized I had to check the round four results of the currently running 1st Asian Club Cup and found out that I have missed most of the rounds. Final round game is scheduled today and our very own all-GM Philippine Team will have to win over their rivals from China to land second place behind GM Sergei Karjakin's UAE Team.
Let's get on with the details:
In round 4, it was Al Ain Chess Club A of UAE against Tagaytay Chess Club of the Philippines. Fans were excited about this match as we saw GM Wesley So played with black pieces against another one of the youngest ever grandmaster, GM Karjakin. The game was a draw, another milestone for the Bacoor Wonderboy. Remember the match between GM Shirov and GM So in the Olympiads? draw. This is a good preview for us chess fans as we enter the year 2009, GM Wesley So's rating will further up the super-GM status. Also in round four, GM's Laylo, Paragua and Gomez lost against their opponents, thus losing our hold on top post.
In round 5, we played and won against Club India with a score of 1.5 - 2.5. Board one was a draw, IM Laxman vs GM So, board 2 IM Sengupta Deep vs GM Gomez John Paul, 1 - 0, a lose for Philippines' latest GM addition. On board 3 and 4, GM's Paragua and Laylo won over IM' Karthikeyan and Prathamesh respectively.
In round 6, Tagaytay Chess Club won 3.5 - .5 against Club Intchess of Singapore. Filipino and former Bacoor-based IM Ino Sadorra played for the club from Singapore on board 2, losing to GM JP Gomez. GM's So and Laylo won on their respective assignements while GM Paragua o board 3 drew with FM Peter Long.
