Kids thoughts Part 1

Hi there again!

The other week, I received complaints and requests from parents of one of the Primary years Program Class about one of the mainstreamed student. They were actually asking for a class EQ session with me to facilitate understanding and awareness of a special child's needs in the classroom.

After an almost 2 hours of a very interesting, emotionally pumping talk with the class, we all agreed on the following issues:

1. Cultural Differences/Similarities
2. Uniqueness
3. Individual likes and dislikes
4. Understanding or Respect to everyone and anyone

Somehow, I just felt I would let the talk hang loose if I won't ask them to write their thoughts about the discussion and reflect on ways everyone can benefit from such a diverse classroom (and of course this leads to a diverse society, nation and place called earth.

Here's some of my kids reaction/reflections:

Priyanka J.

" Special children are not to be made fun of. Special children are very scared of doctors and injections. Special kids say "bad words"but they don't usually mean it. We should help special children and teach them how to speak properly. It is not enough for us to pity them but to help them survive in their ordinary lives. We may help them survive in their ordinary daily lives. We may help them face their fears, encourage them to become independent individuals in order to make their lives as normal as possible; to help them manage and cope up with their struggles; can stand on their own. We do not give special treatment to special children and do not label them as "special children" because we are all special and unique in God's eyes."

Alexandra J.S. H.:

"How can I help a classmate with special needs?

I can help a classmate with special needs by teaching him/her to do polite things and don't say bad words. Be respectful to others s others will respect you. Be helpful, do good things not bad, don't annoy anyone and teach him/her to be a good friend to others. And teach them not to lie to others or to their parents. I can do this by showing my care. I can also do this by talking or guiding. And by being a good friend to them so they will be a good friend to you too."

That's all for now. Hope we can all learn from these naive, innocent thoughts of the next generation.
